Description

The Scottish Centre for Personal Safety is a multi-award-winning charity based in Ardrossan. They provide confidence building Personal Safety courses to a variety of groups and vulnerable people both in North Ayrshire and across Scotland...and they are looking for a Trustee to join their Board. Could it be YOU?
The Scottish Centre for Personal Safety runs their confidence building Personal Safety courses from their Barony St John Centre on Princes Street, Ardrossan but also provide their training across Scotland via their 10 volunteers. There are currently NO paid members of staff working with this charity. All instructors, including the Operations Manager, are volunteers.
Being a charity, they need a Board of Trustees to operate and this Board meets 4 times per year (January, April, July and October), usually on a Friday morning, for around 2 hours each time so it's not a huge time constraint. The next Board meeting is scheduled for Friday 24th January.
We are looking for people who are or have been involved with the people we service - female survivors of violence, children, Sensory Impaired, LBGT, Ethnic Minority groups - so people with a Women's Aid, Rape Crisis, Social Services, Sensory Impairment Team, Police background would be ideal.

Organisation aims and objectives

Our overall mission is to potentially save lives by preventing and reducing violence and the fear of violence as well as empowering individuals to manage safer lives. Our objectives are to :- provide practical training and solutions to help people avoid violence and aggression. To raise awareness of the importance of personal safety in the community. To provide a point of contact for people at risk or secure advice.

Experience required: No
Travel details: The Centre is on all the main bus routes ie no11, 12 and 585. It is also located close to 2 train stations within Ardrossan. These positions are unpaid but travel expenses will be reimbursed.

Training details: Volunteers could go through First Aid training, Health & Safety trainingand Fire policy training.

Silver City Surfers (SCS) is a local charity which has been operating since 2005 providing people with the opportunity to learn basic computing skills, including use of email and the internet. Increasingly, we are helping our learners to make the most of smart phones and tablets. We are currently looking to recruit new Trustees to join our Board so we can continue to support older people to ensure that they are not left behind by the advances in technology. You don’t need specific skills, just a willingness to help our charity continue to provide a lifeline for older people. Training can be provided. Trustees meet 1x per month to make sure that the organisation is running well and that our plans are properly implemented. They form the Management committee of the charity and have responsibility for making sure that SCS is doing what it is set up to do. We are fortunate to have amazing coordinators who are responsible for the day to day running of our sessions and recruiting and supporting our volunteers. We accept large donations of furniture, household items, clothes, and food. Working with local social welfare teams, we provide free home furnishings to those in need. Our two retail outlets offer high-quality goods including furniture, children's toys, and clothing for purchase. The proceeds from sales help cover the charity's operating costs.
