We work with males over the age of 26 years who have had a drug or alcohol problem. Our aim is to give people back their self esteem and a purpose in life away from addiction. We do this through a variety of ways such as having monthly outings e.g.: fishing gorge walking, bowling. We also do a community garden. This helps people give something back to their communities and helps break down stigma. We meet on a Tuesday from 12-2.30pm. We also do a Thursday from 10am-12.30pm which is a drop-in with activities such as board games and arts and crafts. We have opportunities for people to volunteer to help out at the groups. It is very enjoyable, rewarding and you would gain good experience and make a very positive difference. All help is greatly appreciated and makes a real difference to people and the community. Oshay’s Centre is the home of Oshay's Brain Domains CIC which focuses on Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder (FASD) education and advocacy. It provides education to professionals, schools, parents, and children about what FASD is and how it affects individuals’ brains and those around them. Oshay’s also offers resources and a sense of community to empower and support families and professionals working with individuals with brain-based disabilities. Additionally, our work extends to supporting various neurodiverse conditions like ADHD, Trauma, Autism, Dyspraxia, and Dyslexia, falling under the umbrella of “Neurodiversity.” Additionally, we have recently launched a much needed Child Contact, Mediation and Counselling Service within our Centre. Oshay's are currently looking to recruit Child Contact Centre volunteers to facilitate supported or supervised child contact. The central concept of a child contact centre is to offer a safe, friendly, neutral, child-centred environment for children to meet their non-resident parent or family member. They are designed to be a stepping stone to a more permanent arrangement for future contact. Parents/family members can spend time with their children in a supported or supervised context. They can also use the centres to collect and return the children to the other parent at the start and end of visits. Adults do not have to see or speak to each other at contact centres. FRIDAY YOUTHWORK TEAM – VOLUNTEERING This opportunity is for vibrant people who enjoy all that is involved with working with young people of various backgrounds. The Ayr Ark is open to young people on Friday evenings from 6:30-9:00pm. Volunteers are required to help from 6:00pm-9:15pm, this will involve both set up and pack down. Some of the responsibilities include, handling money and use of our till, serving drinks and snacks at the bar, engaging with young people through conversation and/or games, and being a role model to our young people. Volunteer roles are rotated to different areas within the building throughout the night, to allow you to gain more skills and qualities. One of our volunteers, started coming to the Ayr Ark at the age of 13 and went on to become a part of our volunteer group. Erin recently left us to start UNI but when asked about her experience as a volunteer she said: “I’ve made friends for life here and gained skills and real life experience I never thought possible, and it helped me grow as a person” – Erin Cran, Volunteer.

We provide emotional support by listening to people when they are finding life tough. People call us for a range of reasons. Samaritans volunteers get excellent training and work in pairs at their local branch. We need a range of volunteers - from listening to running the branch in all other ways.
