Marie Curie Companion is a professional service provided by trained volunteers who offer one-to-one companionship and support to people with a terminal illness and their families. The service would not be able to reach those most in need if it was not for the commitment and hard work of the volunteers delivering the service. Companion Volunteers provide companionship and emotional support, practical support, short breaks for carers and help with signposting for information and support. Your role will include some of, but is not restricted to, the following tasks: Carry out weekly visits with the person(s) you’re supporting, as agreed with the Volunteer Co-ordinator. This could be in a variety of settings, eg family home, a care home or in the community. Provide one-to-one companionship and support. For example: offering a listening ear and spending time engaging in every-day conversation, activities or hobbies with the person you are supporting. Driving clients to pre-arranged health or social care (e.g. to medical appointments) or taking short trips out. Helping with small, daily tasks, e.g. making tea or accessing the internet. Allowing carers to have a short break. You may be supporting your client’s family or carers before or during bereavement. This may involve offering emotional support, signposting to relevant local support services or finding out information as requested (This is only an outline as support will vary according to individual needs. Cycling Without Age Scotland are recruiting Volunteer Pilots to take the elderly and disabled for trips across Forth Valley. You will get full training, and will require PVG disclosure. More information can be found on our Facebook page - https://www.facebook.com/CWAFalkirk A Volunteer Trishaw Pilot is the cyclist who is responsible for all aspects of preparing for and conducting a ride, post-ride duties (e.g. required records) and promoting awareness of, encouraging support for and maintaining the reputation of Cycling Without Age Scotland. The decision as to whether a Co-Pilot is required on the ride should be based on the route assessment. The Pilot must complete the 5-stage training as detailed in the Trishaw and Pilot Handbook, which may be amended/updated from time to time and covers: 1. Getting to know the Trishaw 2. The Passenger’s Experience 3. Trial Runs 4. First Rides 5. Conducting route and risk assessments followed by a final assessment.

The Food Train is an award-winning charity which operates throughout Scotland, supporting older people in local communities to remain living in their own home, as independently as possible. We have a large number of older people in Falkirk experiencing loneliness and isolation who enjoy getting out and speaking to others from their local area. Our volunteer outing helpers assist our members in accessing trips to local cafes and places of interest. If you like chatting, meeting people and getting out and about then this could be the role for you! The role involves: - Collecting and returning home older people, either as a chaperone on a minibus operated by a local company or in your own vehicle if preferred. - Updating staff after outings and completing any monitoring/reviewing as required. - Informing staff of any concerns, accidents, or complaints - Option to attend volunteer meetings, training and social events throughout the year If you have some time to spare and want to help older people and meet new people then we would love to hear from you!
