Description

Would you be able to spare a couple of hours once or twice a year to enjoy a cup of tea with an older person? We’re looking for local people to host tea parties to help reduce loneliness and build social connections.

Isolation and Loneliness are on the rise especially with Older People in the Aberdeen Community. We are looking for friendly and caring people to help with our tea parties. Could you help serve refreshments and friendly conversation from the comfort of your own home? You will only be hosting once or twice a year, so this is perfect for fitting around your own availability and lifestyle.

All our guests are driven to your home by volunteer drivers, and you will be led by our tea party volunteer coordinator. Normally your tea party will last for about 2 hours on a Sunday afternoon. It is the same local group you host so you can make some real connections to your community and the Older Guests. All training is remote, and you are supported by our team and Tea Party Co-ordinator in your role.

Organisation aims and objectives

Re-engage exist to bring older people together into social groups at a time in their lives when their social circles are diminishing. Last year, nearly 7,000 older guests were part of over 900 groups across the UK, supported by 12,000 volunteers.

Restrictions

Experience required: No experience or particular skills required. We just need you to be an empathetic person who is ready to work alongside Older People over the age of 75. We welcome families helping as well as this can be a great opportunity for connecting with your community.
Travel details: This is held in your own home so no travel is needed. You will be amongst a team of volunteers who take turns to host in the homes so you will only be scheduled in for once or twice a year.
Minimum age: 18

Support

Training details: Excellent support and relevant training is provided to all volunteers. Full remote training provided including PVG check and safeguarding. You can complete at your own pace. In your role you are also supported by our Support team and your Tea Party Co-ordinator for any questions or queries you have.

Tech Volunteer

As an AbilityNet Tech volunteer you can help unleash the power of technology to ensure that older people and disabled people are not excluded from the digital world. Overview All across the UK our 300 volunteers support older and/or disabled people at home to offer one-to-one support with their technology, whether that’s a computer, laptop, smartphone or tablet. Our volunteers: - Trouble shoot technical issues. - Offer impartial advice on technology. - Set up new tech and install hardware and software. - Show people how to use their tech at home e.g. shop online, send and receive emails and Skype with family and friends. - Make adaptations to support a disabled person’s specific technology needs. What will I be doing? - Contacting clients to arrange a date/time to support (home visits or supporting them remotely). - Carrying out tech support for the clients you have accepted. - Feeding back on progress via our online ticketing system. - Supporting your local Coordinator with promoting the volunteer service in the local area. - Getting together with other tech volunteers at team meetings and wider company events. - Undergoing training on technology, particularly adaptive technology. - Supporting other volunteers through our online chat facility What are the benefits to me? Volunteer Shopping Companions

Would you like to support older people in the community to eat well, age well and live well and maintain their independence in their own homes for as long as they're able? Are you friendly, sociable and patient with a caring manner? Our Shopping Companion role could well be the opportunity for you! You would carry out the following tasks: · Collect an older person from their home on agreed date and time to take them for their grocery shopping. · Support them as they do their grocery shop and transport them back to their home, helping unpack shopping if required. · To report back to Food Train Connects team and complete all required documentation after each trip. · To report any matters of concern to Food Train staff · To inform Food Train Staff of any accidents, incidents or complaints · To maintain confidentiality · To represent Food Train in a professional manner to customers and the wider community A fantastic opportunity to help make a real difference. You do not need to be a Jamie or Nigella to get involved – just the ability to prepare an extra portion of your meal once a week, to drop off with an older neighbour and have a light hearted blether with them. The role is fun, flexible and can be done at a time that suits you and your matched member!
