We all need to stay at home to protect ourselves and others. However, those who are well and not at risk can provide essential support for their family, friends and neighbours who cannot leave the house.

Tea Party Host

  • Home-based volunteering

Re-engage offers a regular afternoon tea party for older people in the community who are experiencing loneliness. Hosts provide a warm welcome and a simple afternoon tea lasting two hours on a Sunday afternoon for six to eight older guests and three or four drivers. Often hosts involve family and friends and two or three generations join in. Our tea parties are a real lifeline of friendship for our older guests who have little or no contact with family or friends. They bring people of all ages together, develop fulfilling friendships and support networks, and give everyone involved something to look forward to each month. More information is available at www.reengage.org.uk.

Organisation aims and objectives

Re-engage is a committed to tackling the problem of loneliness, one of the most invisible but debilitating issues in society today. Re-engage provide regular Sunday afternoon tea parties for over 70s. Once a month each older guest is collected from their home by a volunteer driver, and taken to a volunteer host’s home, where they join a small group for tea, cake and companionship

Our hosts commit to one or two tea parties a year. The Volunteer Co-ordinator will call to check dates and other arrangements and nearer the time will confirm how many guests to expect.

Experience required: No experience required - just a willingness to host a tea party, once or twice a year, for our guests and their drivers. You must have easy access to your house and a downstairs toilet. And, of course, you must enjoy a chat, a cuppa and a slice of cake!
Travel details: We currently have 3 groups based in and around Perth and one in Blairgowrie but are always keen to develop new ones.
