‘Community Friends’ Befriender

The STAR Project currently has volunteer opportunities available within the befriending scheme, ‘Community Friends’. This role offers you the chance to support individuals and families throughout Renfrewshire, on a long or short term basis. Befriending may be going out for coffee together once a week or visiting a client in their own home. You may accompany someone to an appointment or support them in accessing services and opportunities. Training is provided and ongoing. Group supervision is held monthly.

Volunteers must be 18 years old or over and will undergo a CRB check if successful.
Experience required: A person who can listen to others and allow them to express their own feelings without telling them how they should or shouldn’t feel. A person who is willing to sit quietly with others when they can’t put their feelings into words and give them the time and opportunity to make their own decisions. A person who is reliable and clear about their commitments and boundaries, whom others can confide in knowing that confidentiality is a priority.
