Description

We are looking for enthusiastic Volunteers for our exciting growing project in Innerleithen at St.Ronan’s Primary School. Individuals will carry on necessary tasks required to keep the edible garden in good condition.

Volunteers for growing projects will help support the Project co-ordinator and Gardener in all activities relating to the growing patch of land allocated for the project. This will include helping in composting, sowing the seeds, digging, moving equipment around, weeding, trimming, raking, mowing the grass, watering the plants, and all related gardening activities. They may also manage the participants who will be engaged in the project and make sure all tools are kept under lock and key at the end of each working day. This role would suit someone who is interested in learning more about plants and gaining skills in gardening. You will be working under the supervision of a lead gardener. No previous experience is necessary. This role will require bending and some light lifting. Volunteers will gain valuable knowledge, experience and transferable skills throughout the duration of the project.

Restrictions

Experience required: • We are looking for individuals that are fit and healthy so as to be in a position to carry out jobs that are similar to manual labour. There is frequent bending and lifting required. Good communication skills, ability to work on own and as part of a team, positive outlook, self-motivated and flexible. Basic gardening experience preferable but will also take on a enthusiastic individual who wants to give gardening a go!
Travel details: Location: Innerleithen We are looking for people who live locally within the area who can walk or cycle to the project. Outwith the area we are happy to take volunteers who are willing to use public transport and their travel expenses will be re-imbursed during the duration of the project. This project ends in March 2016.
Minimum age: 16

Support

Training details: A designated member of the Board will be having the informal chat and going through the recruitment process with the individual. The Gardener will be providing all the on-going support and training required on the job.
