Could you make a difference to children and young people in Fife? Are you looking for a new, meaningful challenge, a fun opportunity or a sense of achievement?
Barnardo's are looking for enthusiastic individuals to offer support to children and young people across Fife, helping them to develop social skills, resilience and confidence. Befrienders engage in activities with children and young people. They can accompany them on trips to local parks and beaches, to libraries or to clubs or support them to develop hobbies. Befrienders also act as role models for children and young people by promoting trusting relationships and self-confidence.

Organisation aims and objectives

To assist children and their families to prevent family breakdown through the provision of intensive assessment and support services including parenting work.\n1:1 work with children;\n










Specific timings will be arranged to suit the young person and the volunteer. There is no minimum commitment but a long-term one would be beneficial for the young person.


Experience required: A positive, non-judgmental attitude An ability to communicate with children Committed and enthusiastic An ability to work as part of a team Willingness to participate in a training programme Reliable and punctual. Drivers license and access to own vehicle preferable
Travel details: Barnardo's Fife Locality is based in Kirkcaldy but they support children all across Fife and will endeavour to find a suitable match for befrienders in their chosen location. Having your own car would be preferable.

Expenses details: Out of pocket expenses are paid. Travel expenses are also paid.
Training details: Induction training runs twice a year and involves around 30 hours in total which includes online training as well as classroom-based training. They offer supervision monthly and have access to the same in-house training opportunities as staff.
