Description

You can make a difference to the lives of older people and help them live more independently within the St Mary’s Garden complex.

St Mary’s Garden is a vibrant community of older people who live in a Sheltered Housing complex. The residents like to play an active part in deciding what activities and events they hold as well as encourage and support each other to take part in the organisation of the activities.

Volunteers are asked to travel on a coach or mini bus to assist helping older people traveling to and from various outings on a monthly basis if possible. They will assist older people to safely board and alight from the vehicle at the venues and their homes, as well as attend the events and activities with them.

Responsibilities and tasks:

  • To establish and develop trusting relationships with older people and other volunteers
  • To give up to 4 hours of your time at any chosen event
  • To encourage, motivate and improve confidence to enable older people to participate socially
  • Able to volunteer confidently to assist people on and off the bus

Opportunity would happen for 4 hours on a monthly basis.

Restrictions

Volunteers would require PVG check as working with Vulnerable adults.
Experience required: Some knowledge and experience of the needs of older people and an awareness of their mobility risks.
Travel details: The person would make their own way to St Mary’s Gardens Sheltered Housing development, Heys Street, Barrhead, G78 2LL.

Expenses paid: Yes
Expenses details: The residents will pay bus fares/mileage costs on receipt of ticket/receipt. We will also purchase a theatre ticket and meal for you.
Taster available: Yes
Taster details: Volunteer would accompany the group to Caldwell Golf Club.
Training details: Induction training provided by Housing Association staff. Person could also come along to the weekly Coffee Morning on Wednesday 10 am – 12 noon. On-going training provided as required, regular support ad hoc and planned.
