Telephone Befriender

Description

Telephone Befrienders are matched to an older person who they call once a week for usually for about 30 minutes. The calls are regular and Befrienders are matched to callers in other locations across the UK.

Organisation aims and objectives

The Silver Line is the confidential, free helpline for older people across the UK* open every day and night of the year. Our specially trained helpline staff: •Offer information, friendship and advice •Link callers to local groups and services •Offer regular befriending calls •Protect and support those who are suffering abuse and neglect *Silver Line Scotland is delivered by Age Scotland in partnership with The Silver Line during week days, 9am – 5pm. At all other times calls will be answered at the national helpline HQ.

Support

Expenses details: No Travel involved.
Training details: Training delivered remotely by training pack and group work by conference calls. There is no charge to any volunteer for these calls. Each volunteer will be fully supported by a volunteer manager and peer matching.
