Sewing Classroom Assistant

Description

The role of the sewing classroom assistant will be to work with other volunteers and project staff to plan and deliver sewing lessons, tutor basic sewing skills such as working a sewing machine, following patterns, measuring and cutting fabric and hemming, provide support to individual learners in a classroom setting, set up and clear up sewing stations within the sewing class, maintain check in and out system for sewing tools and follow DIWC policy and procedures.

To provide and promote supported volunteering opportunities within the Association at local, national and international level. To achieve quality through effective monitoring and evaluation.

We are looking for a minimum of 2.5 hours commitment per week for at least 5 months.

Restrictions

Experience required: It is desirable to have knowledge and experience of sewing techniques and the ability to use a sewing machine.
Travel details: We are close to bus routes number 15/17, 32/33.
Minimum age: 16

Expenses paid: Yes
Expenses details: The amount reimbursed is equivalent to a Dundee day saver bus ticket per return journey, or less. There is an onsite crèche facility and the cost of use for volunteers is £2 per hour.
Taster available: Yes
Taster details: There is opportunity to observe an sewing lesson.
Training details: An induction will be done before the volunteer begins her role. This will be followed by support from relevant project staff. Training opportunities will be available throughout the year.
