One to One ESOL Tutor

Description

The role of the one to one ESOL tutor will be to plan and deliver appropriately levelled English lessons for individual students who do not have English as their first language, meet with students for 1 - 2 hours once a week during school term time at DIWC, provide literacy support where appropriate, gather regular feedback and review progress and development of student with project staff, and work closely with project staff to source appropriate materials.

The crèche costs are £2 per session for volunteers.

DIWC ARE UNABLE TO OFFER ESOL VOLUNTEERING OPPORTUNITIES AT WEEKENDS OR IN THE EVENINGS.

We are looking for a minimum commitment of 1-2 hours per week for at least 5 months.

Restrictions

Only women may apply. We feel that anyone younger than the min age may not have experience and skills to support an adult in their learning.
Experience required: It is desirable to have training or a qualification in teaching English for speakers of other languages or equivalent. It would also be desirable to have experience of working with the black and minority ethnic communities but not essential.
Travel details: We are close to bus routes number 15/17, 32/33.

Support

Expenses paid: Yes
Expenses details: The amount reimbursed is equivalent to a Dundee day saver bus ticket per return journey, or less. There is an onsite crèche facility and the cost of use for volunteers is £2 per hour.
Taster available: Yes
Taster details: There is opportunity to observe an ESOL lesson before committing.
Training details: An induction will be done before the volunteer begins her role. This will be followed by support from relevant project staff. Training opportunities will be available throughout the year.
