We are desperately short of volunteer “Observers” (tutors) to help people improve their driving up to Institute of Advanced Motorists Advanced Driver level. We will train you to that level if you don't already hold an appropriate qualification then further train you to become an Observer and train others.

Organisation aims and objectives

To improve the standard of driving on Borders roads by providing one-to-one coaching and thereby improve road safety To promote the nationally recognised IAM Advanced Test To assist drivers to reach a standard of driving that will enable them to pass the Advanced Test To instil in drivers an ethos of self-monitoring and a desire to further improve their skills and knowledge To work with other organisations to promote road safety

Restrictions

Experience required: Holder of full driving licence; use of a car; keen to learn and pass on Advanced driving skills; teaching/coaching/mentoring experience useful but not essential; articulate and patient.
Travel details: Your training will take place in central Borders then you will operate reasonably close to your own home in the Borders.
Minimum age: 17

Support

Expenses details: We will reimburse your initial significant costs i.e. cost of training, 1st year IAM and Group membership and also ongoing Group membership.
Training details: A series of informal in-car sessions to develop advanced driving and coaching skills. Helpful literature and DVDs will also be provided.
