The RAF Association is a member-led, welfare charity that exists to ensure that all members of the RAF community are supported, when they require it. Volunteering for the RAF Association is a great way of developing your skills and meeting new people, at the same time as supporting members of the RAF community in your local area who need your help. A Caseworker is someone who volunteers for the Royal Air Force Association gathering information, asking questions and completing necessary forms and by doing so, you will make a real difference. You will also work closely with the Area Welfare Officer to complete each case successfully. Volunteers we need you, with you inspiration and motivation to serve as a board member on the Management Board of HALLA (Harlaw Area Lifelong Learning Association). We are a Board of people who run daytime and evening classes at Kaimhill Learning Centre. We have a FB page ( @HALLACommunity) where you can see some of our activities and tutored classes. We meet once a month to discuss new opportunities and management issues, to find new ways of how-to bring people of all ages in the local community into the centre. We have several weekly, social, informal learning groups where Board members can get to know each other and form a friendly working relationship. A volunteer should be passionate, enthusiastic and have a keen interest in community matters. A volunteer does not necessarily require specific skills since we all support each other to develop new skills but if you have specific ones, it would be good to introduce them to the rest of the Board so we can use them to benefit the local community. The Board would appreciate people with knowledge of IT and office procedures but enthusiasm and interest in the community are equally important. This is an amazing opportunity to discover your “hidden talents” !!! You are very welcome to attend a committee meeting and see if this is for you. As an AbilityNet Tech volunteer you can help unleash the power of technology to ensure that older people and disabled people are not excluded from the digital world. Overview of the Tech volunteer role All across the UK our 350+ volunteers support older and/or disabled people in their communities to offer one-to-one support with their technology, whether that’s a computer, laptop, smartphone or tablet. Our volunteers: • Troubleshoot technical issues • Offer impartial advice on technology • Set up new tech and install hardware and software • Show people how to use their tech at home e.g. shop online, send and receive emails and video call with family and friends • Make adaptations to support a disabled person’s specific technology needs What will I be doing? • Contacting clients to arrange a date/time to support (could include, home visits, meetings in libraries, cafes etc. supporting them remotely online or attending group sessions). • Carrying out tech support for the clients you have accepted. • Feeding back on progress via our online ticketing system. • Supporting your local Coordinator with promoting the volunteer service in the local area. • Getting together with other tech volunteers at team meetings and wider company events. • Attending training on technology, particularly adaptive technology. • Supporting other volunteers through our online chat facility What are the benefits to me? Inchgarth is delighted to announce a partnership with ABZWorks where we are offering you a wide range of excellent volunteering opportunities that will give you the confidence to learn new skills, make new friends, and a snapshot of different careers that may excite you as you consider your next steps. There’s only a small level of commitment, to suit your availability. Each volunteer will sign up ABZWorks to gain a whole range of practical positive support on CV making, possible training if you require it, and information about various employment opportunities in the city.bThere are no obligations, no costs, no impact on your benefits, only positives where you have new doors opening for you, and our centre gains your fantastic help. -CRITERIA It’s very straightforward, and again, the level of commitment is wholly your decision, but to gain the new skills and confidence, we do suggest no less than 6 weeks. • You can’t be in employment. • You can’t be in training. • You can’t be in education. • You have to live in Aberdeen city. • You must be aged 16-67 years of age. • Have the right to work and live in the UK. -SOME VOLUNTEERING ROLES…BUT THERE’S PLENTY MORE! - Would you like to learn from our wonderful chef Garry, who's looking to teach someone how to become a chef. He'll give you a good grasp of the basics. For 16-25 years of age this opportunity. - Volunteer in our café doing basic tasks like serving, stocking up, dishes, wiping tables, and learning how to use the coffee machine. - Help at our youth club, gaining tremendous experience working with primary-aged children. Friday 3.30-5.30pm - Support our lovely gaming club for primary-aged children, playing games, supervising and gaining important experience working with young people. Monday 4.30pm-6.30pm. - Volunteer at our Phoenix Club for adults with additional support needs, a really wonderful club where you will gain excellent experience in the social care sector. Mon 7-9pm. Thurs 1-3pm. - Take part in our amazing pensioners club on a Monday 12.45pm-3.15pm, where you’ll get a great understanding of working with 45 elderly people. It’s great fun! -Help us as a cleaner, keeping our building nice and tidy. You’ll meet loads of people of all ages, and it’s quite sociable too! Any day and time. - You might have IT skills that you want to put to good use but have not used those skills for some time. We have office work, and even teaching opportunities to pass on your skills. - Perhaps you have skills in advertising and haven’t had the chance to put them to good use for some time. We have lots of small DIY jobs across the centre, your help would be amazing. - Do you have music skills? Perhaps you’d like to get back into teaching, if so, this is the role for you. - Maybe you’d like to gain some basic skills in maintaining our fitness gym, and keeping it tidy? - We are looking for a general centre assistant to help set up rooms, tidy away, clean equipment, and keep our stores in good order. - Would you like to run a group and have a skill you’d like to pass onto others, such as knitting, sewing, art. - We are looking for people to assist our new men’s social group, playing pool, cards, dominoes. - We have a wonderful charity called Future Choices on a Tuesday, working with adults with physical disabilities and health problems. They’d love your support. Tuesday 11am-1.30pm. - Minibus driver for our pensioners club. You may have a completely different idea of how you’d like to get involved, and we’d love to gain your ideas. -SUPPORT FROM ABZWorks. There’s lots of support from the good folks at ABZWorks, where they have keyworkers who’ll help you along your journey, no matter what stage you are at. There are no obligations on your behalf, other than just signing up with them to hear what they can do for you.
