Theatre Usher

The role of the Usher involves assisting our audiences in and around the theatre and responsibilities can vary for each performance with support from the front of house manager and venue manager.

Duties include directing customers to the theatre facilities, checking tickets and showing people to their seats, selling ice cream and programmes, dealing effectively with latecomers, audience related enquiries and problems, and taking responsibility for the safe evacuation of the visiting public during an incident.

Organisation aims and objectives

The Whitehall Theatre is a big part of the cultural fabric of the city and is home to many of the City's amateur musical societies and dance schools. We also play host to a variety of professional shows including comedians, singers, tribute acts and children's shows.










In the case of a performance, we would typically require our ushers for around 4 hours.


Due to licencing, we are unable to use volunteers under the age of 16.
Experience required: Good communication skills, an interest in the theatre/arts and a desire to work in a public facing environment.
Travel details: Nearest bus stop is on Bellfield Street outside the theatre.
Minimum age: 16


Taster available: Yes
Training details: All volunteers are required to spend one show in training. The team meet periodically for training sessions where we explore a variety of theatre related topics.
