Description

The role of the Welcome Guide is to provide help, direction and reassurance and to offer a friendly and helpful welcome to patients, families and visitors.

Be welcoming by chatting to patients and visitors and make them feel at ease. Actively observe patients/visitors to the unit identifying anyone who may appear in need of assistance.

Signposting patients to waiting areas to be called for their appointment. Liaising with staff in the unit as necessary.

Organisation aims and objectives

A national resource for Scotland, the Golden Jubilee National Hospital is managed by the National Waiting Times Centre Board. The Golden Jubilee is home to regional and national heart and lung services, is a major centre for orthopaedics, and is the flagship hospital for reducing waiting times in key elective specialties.

Restrictions

Experience required: Ability to communicate clearly, especially with distressed, anxious or worried patients and relatives. A quiet room is available should a member of staff need to speak to patient or relative. Ability to use own initiative appropriately and contribute to the overall efforts of the team. Be reasonably fit and able to walk/stand throughout your shift. Desire and commitment to help patients and visitors to the hospital. Reliability and excellent time keeping skills are essential.

Expenses details: Volunteers are entitled to claim ‘out of pocket’ expenses in line with our Volunteering Policy and Guidelines.
Training details: Essential Corporate Induction and training will be provided for all Volunteers to ensure they are prepared for the role. · Hand Hygiene Awareness · Fire Safety · Volunteers must show a willingness to undertake training and comply with NHS Golden Jubilee Policies and Procedures.

Welcome Guide

This is an exciting opportunity to be part of a volunteer team who are committed to contributing to and enhancing the experience of our patients and their families who visit Stobhill Hospital. A considerable number of visitors & patients will walk through the entrance of the hospital for the first time, on a daily basis. They may require guidance to find their way around and they may have questions they wish to ask. The front entrance of the hospital can be a busy environment, especially at peak times of the day. Volunteer Welcome Guides will be located at the Main Desk of the hospital and offer a friendly and helpful welcome to patients, families and visitors, directing them to where they want to go. This may involve accompanying people to their destination, if appropriate. KEY TASKS: Looking out for patients / visitors in the hospital entrance who may appear in need of assistance Chatting to patients and visitors, and make them feel at ease. Guiding people from main desk towards where they wish to go, accompanying them if they are unsure of verbal directions. Directing patients to waiting areas for clinics or to check-in desks on upper levels if required. Liaising with staff in Health Records or Facilities teams to resolve any issues that may arise.

Through our Community Healthcare Support Service, we provide support to the one in five people in Scotland living with a chest, heart or stroke condition or Long Covid. Join our amazing team of Community Support Volunteers, who support people with one or more of our conditions to develop autonomy and confidence in self-management, enabling them to fully engage with their community and activities of their choosing. The service follows a pathway from hospital to community and can be delivered in a one-to-one and/or group setting in person, virtually or via telephone.

Independent Living Service Volunteer Scottish Borders

Based from TD1 2HQ We have community led outreach volunteering opportunities throughout the Scottish Borders including but not limited to Hawick, Peebles, Eyemouth, Galashiels, Cheviot and Teviot. We are looking for volunteers who • Can commit to volunteer at least half a day per week – Monday to Friday • Are able to drive and have use of a vehicle, this is preferred if providing outreach support but not essential. Support with shopping and collecting prescriptions. Help people find further support if they need it. Keep records of tasks. The skills you need Warm and friendly with empathy for others. Good communication skills. Encouraging and supportive. Enjoy meeting and spending time with new people. Can work independently and as a part of a team. Able to commit to a regular shift.
