Gardening Volunteer

Description

MCCI are looking for keen, enthusiastic individuals who would like to volunteer within Methilhill Learning Garden, carrying out a variety of tasks. If you enjoy being outdoors and have one or two spare hours a week they would love to hear from you.
There will be a variety of tasks including some general DIY. They need help maintaining the garden - trees, flowers, herbs and bushes - they have planted. Families or friends are welcome to volunteer as a group.
Gardening knowledge would be an advantage but it’s not essential, if you’re enthusiastic and willing to muck in. Here is a list of the types of things you might be asked to do in the garden: weeding, planting, trimming, pruning, maintaining paths, cutting grass, tidying up.

Organisation aims and objectives

Multi-award winning community led charitable organisation focusing on delivering clubs and activities for the local children, young people and the wider community in Methilhill. We aim to "advance education", to advance citizenship or community development" and aim to achieve this via youth clubs and the Methilhill Community Learning Garden project. The Garden project focuses on promoting natural play and a curiosity for learning. The project aims to enhance the confidence and resilience of children and young people as well as harness a respect and appreciation of the natural world.

Experience required: Some gardening knowledge and experience would be preferable though not essential. Enthusiasm and commitment welcomed..
Travel details: Methilhill Learning Garden is based in Sea Road Methilhill. KY8 2GW There are bus stops within walking distance and parking is available
Minimum age: 14

Expenses paid: Yes
Expenses details: Volunteers are reimbursed on a fortnightly basis.
Training details: Volunteers will be paired with a member of staff who will be their main contact. Ongoing support will also be provided by project manager. We offer online training and in-person training as required.

Gardening volunteer

On the 20th March 2011 the people of Girvan celebrated the official opening of their community garden. People couldn't believe the transformation of what was once a neglected and overgrown tree nursery. Before we took over the area in 2006/07 it had lain derelict for over 30 years. We knew it had lots of potential and so we decided to ask the community what they thought of turning it into a community garden. The support was overwhelming. As you can imagine there was lots to do to get the area into a state where we could start to design and plant. We relied heavily on volunteers who are the backbone of our community garden. In July 2010 we became part of the Beechgrove Garden Community Garden’s project. They came and filmed us and helped with our design ideas. It finally felt like we were really getting somewhere. After all of the hard work it's wonderful to be able to open the garden up to so many different people. We relish the opportunity to promote gardening and other related activities particularly to those who are new gardeners and young children. We support community well-being and better health through gardening. Events held in the community garden are well attended and supported. We are currently looking for volunteer gardeners to join us on Tuesdays to help plant and maintain the gardens. We welcome volunteers from across the spectrum of gardening knowledge and experience. Volunteer Leader (Gardening)

garden volunteer leader to assist our new outdoor team. No prior gardening experience is required, but it would be helpful if you can distinguish between a daisy and a daffodil. Your responsibilities will include working with our volunteers, organizing outdoor events, and overseeing the maintenance of our community gardens and town centre planters. Bi-weekly meetings will be held in our community cafe, with complimentary hot drinks and snacks provided.

Maintenance & Gardening Volunteer

You could be working alongside the maintenance team to help keep our building open and safe for the public or help in the garden. Role Description Jobs might include planting, weeding, and keeping the garden clean and tidy so it is safe for public use. You might even get to work alongside our Gardening SQA to improve the space. Ensuring the building is safe for the team and the general public. Helping with general maintenance such as changing light bulbs and painting and small repairs. Providing support, giving relevant, input and ideas.

Gardening Volunteer

Kirkcaldy Old Kirk Trust is responsible for preserving and maintaining Kirkcaldy Old Kirk as a community venue, heritage centre and community music hub. The Trust is looking for a volunteer gardener to help with maintaining the garden. The external flower beds provide an area for quiet contemplation and people enjoy viewing them when they pass the church. The kirk also rents out space to a local café and they have a “secret garden” which can be used by customers. If you enjoy being outdoors and gardening this could be the ideal role for you. Volunteers can be involved in activities such as weeding and general maintenance of the flower beds in the garden, as well as having the opportunity to use their creativity to design the layout of the garden and use different approaches to planting.
