BERA committee of volunteers run the not for profit charity offering a programme of evening class opportunities in Grove Academy for adults.

Volunteers are needed to get involved of all aspects of the operation, providing attendance and/or support especially in the following areas: contributing to meeting discussions, attending enrolment evenings, publicity and marketing/advertising, approving financial reports, minute taking at meetings, working with tutors and students to become familiar with school premises, directing newcomers to rooms, and general admin, including becoming familiar with health & safety arrangements and with responsibilities under charities legislation and data protection.

The role would be fully supported by current committee and the coordinator.

This would be an excellent opportunity to gain experience in this role.

Organisation aims and objectives

BERA is a not for profit charity providing evening classess for adults in Grove Academy. A variety of recreational activities is offered.The facility is managed and overseen by a small voluntary committee of trustees which meets on a regular basis to discuss progress of classes, financial matters, etc.










Three hours bi-monthly for committee meeting attendance (term time), evenings; approx 60 hours throughout the academic year on an occasional basis.


Experience required: Some previous experience of committee work would be an advantage, as would some working knowledge of charities legislation. Good communication skills and ability to work as part of committee team, and an interest in community learning.
Travel details: Grove Academy, Claypotts Road, DD5 3AE in term time; Douglas Community Centre at other times. There is limited parking within the school/centre grounds, and the areas are served by several bus routes.

Training details: Induction would cover all aspects of how the organisation operates. Ongoing support from other committee members and from coordinator.
