Description

You’ll receive access to our volunteer training programme and have the opportunity to bring a sense of achievement to vulnerable Borders youngsters. We are looking for volunteers across a range of activities:

• Assisting with weekly sessions, supporting the young people as they work around the ponies and during the riding element,
• Maintenance and ground work,
• Special skills that would engage the children like outdoor crafts, music, art etc
• Yard work assisting in the daily routines associated with the care of the horses
• Transporting the children to and from the weekly sessions ( Across the borders to Dryden Farm)
• Administration/IT
• Team Building Opportunities
• Competitions and Events

(A full clean driving licence is required if you are to be involved in transporting the children as is a PVG disclosure. We can arrange the PVG certification)

Organisation aims and objectives

Stable Life is a registered charity working with vulnerable young people between 10 and 18 years of age in the Scottish Borders who are experiencing personal challenges. We offer a safe, nurturing and learning experience using the horse and its surroundings to help young people reach their full potential and become healthier and happier.

Half day sessions for the Children are held 5 days per week within school hours. The Maintenance and Yard work are 7 days per week from early till late! The administration is Monday to Friday and we have various events and competitions at the weekend.

Restrictions

Minimum Age is 16.
Experience required: An interest in young people and an awareness of the issues they face, friendly, supportive and discrete. A knowledge and confidence around horses for those interested in the weekly sessions. You don’t have to be horsey to help with the other elements!
Travel details: Dryden Farm, Ashkirk, Selkirk. Ability to transport yourself to the venue is required.

Expenses paid: Yes
Expenses details: Mileage is reimbursed at 36p per mile or bus fares as appropriate.
Training details: An induction programme of 2 hours followed by a tailored programme specific to your own are of interest.
