Group Facilitator

  • VO50480

Description

Facilitating a self-help group for people who live with bipolar disorder and their friends, family and carers. An opportunity to help people who live with bipolar disorder learn how to manage and understand the condition. Our Borders Bipolar Group meets on the second Monday of every month (7-9pm) in Galashiels and we’re looking for two Facilitators to run these regular monthly meetings. All our Groups have two facilitators and - in addition to co-facilitating the regular monthly meetings - one facilitator will book guest speakers (3 or 4 per year) while the other records attendance at the group.

The ideal person will have a strong interest in mental health and should enjoy working with people, particularly in group settings. This is an excellent opportunity for anyone interested in mental health issues to develop useful skills and experience (particularly in group work) and strengthen their CV without taking on a massive time commitment. Anyone interested in the role will be able to observe a group meeting and meet the two current facilitators (who will remain in post until the end of the year to ensure a smooth handover).

Organisation aims and objectives

Bipolar Scotland exists to improve the quality of life for everyone who lives with bipolar disorder in Scotland, including friends, family and carers as well as people with a bipolar diagnosis. We do this by supporting a network of self-help groups across the country, by providing helpful and accurate information, by combatting stigma and stereotypes and by running Self-Management Training courses. We also represent the views of people who live with bipolar disorder to politicians and health professionals and we act as a bipolar helpline.
