Description

Volunteers may be involved in a range of activities, including making contact with victims/witnesses by 'phone, supporting witnesses attending court and visiting victims in their own homes to offer practical and emotional support in the aftermath of crime.
Must be non-judgemental.
Must be able to work confidentially.

Victim Support Scotland needs volunteers to support victims of crime and witnesses attending court throughout West Lothian.
We have Victim Services in every council area in Scotland, and Witness Services at every High and Sheriff Court.

Organisation aims and objectives

Voluntary organisation providing free, confidential and independent services to all victims of reported and unreported crime through our community and court based services helping them to overcome the impact of their experience through Emotional support Some-one to talk to; a person-centred support and recovery programme for victims, witnesses and people affected by crime. Practical help Information and support on the Criminal Justice System including; • crown and defence precognitions, • pre-trial court visits, • help with special measures for vulnerable witnesses, and • on the day support at court. Personal safety and crime prevention advice; Information and onward referral to other sources of local and national help. Specialist support areas include – Anti Social Behaviour, Domestic Abuse, Sexual Violence and Support For Families Bereaved by Murder, Suicide, Traumatic or Violent Death. Support can be given at home, school or other outreach facility, drop-in or office appointment, telephone or e-mail. Monday to Sunday 9.30am – 7.30pm.

Restrictions

All volunteers will require to be PVG checked. Previous offences will not necessarily exclude you from volunteering, but you are advised to make these known at initial interview.
Experience required: Communication Skills
Minimum age: 18

Support

Expenses paid: Yes
Expenses details: All out -of-pocket travel and meal expenses will be paid. Current mileage rate is 45p a mile for private car use, with other travel and meal expenses refunded on production of receipts.
Training details: Full Training will be given Induction and Foundation Training Ongoing Training Option for further Advanced Training
