Description

Later Life Choices provides services for older people in the Glenrothes area that enhance their quality and enjoyment of life by encouraging interaction, mental & physical activity, and companionship. Will you be the someone who makes a difference? Then why not volunteer as a board member! No qualifications are needed but you should have a drive to want to make life better for older people. By joining our Board of Directors, you will help steer the organisation and gain valuable experience in management and governance. Your own experience and expertise will contribute to the boards ability to provide the services needed to meet this aim. This opportunity not only gives you the chance to develop your own management, planning and teamwork skills, but contributing effectively also gives you a very real feeling of actively helping vulnerable people.

Organisation aims and objectives

Provides Active Ageing day service for older people living in Glenrothes and the surrounding area. This includes services for people living with dementia. Alsp providessupport services: Befriending; Out in the Community; Dementia Home Support and Help to Stay at Home.

The Board meets every second month on the last Wednesday of the month for approximately 1.5 hours from 4:00pm to 5:30pm. Other meetings (to discuss specific issues) are arranged between members as required. Members are encouraged to participate in fund raising activities and to get to know the ACG team providing the “hands on” service. There is no minimum commitment, but we would hope that new Board members would wish to stay for at least a year not only to contribute fully but also to gain valuable insight, knowledge and experience of a small but vibrant organisation.

Travel details: The Board meets at 100 Scott Road, Glenrothes, KY6 1AE (though they are using skype group calls at present)

Expenses details: Travel expenses can be paid on the night at a rate agreed by the board
Training details: The Chair is happy to chat informally by phone with potential applicants to give more details about board membership and the role, to discuss the individual’s skills and experience, and to answer any questions. Upon receipt of a completed application form applicants will be invited for interview with the Chair and one other Board member. The Chair is happy to meet informally with potential board applicants to give more details about board membership, to discuss the individual’s skills and experience, and to answer any questions. Initial induction training is conducted by the Chair who will explain how Later Life Choices operates, its goals, current issues and opportunities, and how the organisation is involved with the wider community (including our sponsors). At this meeting the new board member is encouraged to consider how their skills and experience can best be used, and any need for further training will be discussed. The new member will be given a comprehensive induction pack. The new member will meet with the ACG team, and the managers will explain their roles. Ongoing support and training is given as required.
