The Red Cross in Shetland is about to expand existing transport and escort service to include transporting North Isles and North Mainland patients to appointments at the Gilbert Bain Hospital.
Volunteer drivers are required to transport these patients to their appointments. Patients will either need collected from their homes in the North Mainland or collected from the Toft Ferry terminal if travelling from the North Isles then returned again after appointment by the volunteer.
Volunteers will use their own vehicle for this service and will claim back expenses through the Red Cross at 45p per mile plus 5p per passenger per mile.
This will be a hands-off service only open to able bodied people. However, volunteers may need to provide emotional support to service users.
