Description

Oxfam aims to overcome poverty and suffering world-wide. The money raised in the shops funds projects both for emergency provision and development programmes.
Shop Assistants enjoy interacting with the local community and helping others. It is a great way to make new friends and be part of a team.
There are various opportunities throughout the year to hear the results of what happens to the money made which is very motivational. There are also lots of opportunities to discuss and share opinions.
The position can also provide work experience and a reference for those in between jobs or looking for a change to the retailing environment. Volunteering can also lead to paid positions when vacancies arise.

One half day per week, either 9am – 1pm or 1pm – 5pm. As of August 2018, we are particularly looking for volunteers on Monday afternoons & Thursday mornings.

Restrictions

Toilets on top floor.
Experience required: Training is provided. Good people skills are helpful for customer service.
Travel details: 87 High Street, Dalkeith. Lothian buses 3, 39, 40, 48 & 49.
Minimum age: 14

Support

Expenses paid: Yes
Expenses details: Travel expenses are reimbursed and lunches (up to £3) will be paid for anyone volunteering for more than 4 hours.
Training details: All new volunteers are given a full induction training, Health & Safety and Risk Assessment on their first day of volunteering.
