Description

Helm works with around 200 young people every year who go into full-time employment, work experience placements or start a range of courses in Further Education Colleges. The training focuses predominantly on supporting young people who are not in education, employment or training and aims to be flexible and responsive to their needs. Your role as Group Assistant would be: To assist the Instructor in delivering SQA Communication, ICT, Numeracy, Problem Solving & ASDAN modules to groups of 8-10 people; To be involved in assisting with the delivery of training in life skills & social skills; To support with delivery of employability skills in preparation for the workplace i.e writing letters & CVs & applying for jobs; To accompany groups on any social outings or employability events, i.e. employer visits; To be a role model & share personal knowledge & experience of work with trainees; Help to mentor those trainees who require additional support. You would be expected to attend any in house training/meetings relevant to the volunteer role.

Restrictions

Maturity required to work with 15 – 19 yr age group.
Experience required: A genuine interest & maturity to support & mentor young people to build their skills, confidence and self esteem to enter the workplace. Experience of working with this client group would be an advantage, but not essential.
Travel details: Training takes place in the Helm Training Centre, 48 St Andrews Lane, Dundee, DD1 2EY.

Expenses details: Yes, if agreed in advance, and either 40p per mile for use of own car, or reimbursement of public transport.

Training details: Volunteer will be supported by Project Leader and Project Manager. Full company induction will be given. Volunteer will be invited to attend any company in-house training where appropriate.
