Do you want to support Muslim and BME woman across Scotland?

This opportunity with Amina MWRC will train you to take and respond to calls received on our Scottish national Helpline. You will receive 3 days of training to understand the needs and experiences of the women who call, and to learn how to respond empathetically and effectively, followed by further practice “mock calls” to prepare you for the role.

Calls can vary from questions about social connections to domestic abuse and homelessness issues. You will take at least 1 3-hour shift per week on the Helpline, responding to all calls received.

All volunteers have support available 9.30am-5pm throughout the week, team building days and extra training available to develop their skills.

Amina's volunteers are women from diverse backgrounds and of all ages.

Volunteers are currently all working from home. Amina MWRC staff are based out of Glasgow.

Organisation aims and objectives

To promote the welfare of muslim women and counter any disadvantage they may face. To enable muslim women to fully participate in society without having to compromise basic Islamic values and to ensure that they are able to access appropriate services and facilities. To provide services that promote and encourage the development of muslim women in a culturally and religiously sensitive manner.


Women only organisation.
Experience required: Active listening skills. Ability to understand and empathise with diverse experiences non-judgementally. High standard of spoken English. Ability to speak and understand other community languages (Urdu, Farsi, Arabic, Punjabi, Kurdish-Sorani) is an advantage.
Travel details: Volunteers are welcome but not expected to travel into our offices in the South of Glasgow for socials. Travel expenses will be paid for these trips and we are well connected by train and bus from Dundee.
Minimum age: 16


Training details: Induction covering office procedures, Telephone Helpline Association training, Intro to Counselling skills and debriefing after every helpline session.
