There are a variety activities to participate in as student volunteers within University of Dundee’s welcoming, buddying and mentoring scheme Peer Connections. Peer Connections is the University’s welcoming, buddying and mentoring The scheme is run by Student Services. Peer Connections volunteers (Peer Connectors) welcome all new students and act as buddy/mentors for students who need some help with settling into university. Run buddy groups for new international exchange students and also the “Conversation Café” for international students to improve their conversational English and help to meet people. The time commitment is very flexible and student friendly. Free training provided, enhance your employability and gain real experience. Applicants must be matriculated students at University of Dundee.

Organisation aims and objectives

To enable students to get the information they need to find their way around and settle in, help them meet, mix with, learn from, share information and experience with other students.

Restrictions

Undergraduate students must have completed at least one year of study before applying.
Experience required: No previous experience is required. Positive attitude, flexible and good communication skills.Friendly and approachable.
Travel details: Within University campus and Dundee City. Occasional travel required by public bus to Broughty Ferry or St Andrews.

Expenses paid: Yes
Expenses details: Student tutors receive a max. of 8 return journeys by cheapest possible mode of transport. Claims submitted at end of placement (8 weeks). Paid by cheque. Pay outs are reclaimed from the 4 councils whose schools benefit. Travel will be reimbursed monthly in arrears
Training details: Two full training days covering boundaries, confidentiality, teamwork and listenin skills. Ongoing training re systems for class representatives. Ongoing training offered during 2 semesters. 1hr to 2.5hr workshops approx. one per week. Not compulsory.
