Description

Lifeguides are young adults(18-23yrs) who have been affected at some point in their lives by divorce and separation. With this unique life experience it means they can help other young people 11 to 18 yrs who have been affected by divorce or separation.
This is done on a one to one or groupwork basis in a structured way. We as an organisation offer training and support to the Lifeguide, including listening skills.

Heart to Heart is a Christian charity so we ask that our volunteers are sympathetic to the Christian ethos.

Organisation aims and objectives

To address the isolation, pain and trauma of divorce/separation and wider effects on the family in order to prevent mental health problems and other effects of relationship breakdown including unemployment, loss of home, social isolation, anti-social behaviour of children. This focuses on encouraging and equipping people, who are facing a relationship crisis, become more confident and hopeful to face the future.

Restrictions

We need the Lifeguides to come from a similar background to the young people, ie having been affected by divorce or separation and not too big an age gap so that they can relate to the young people
Experience required: As previously stated the volunteer needs to have been affected by divorce or separation in their own family at some point. They need to be aged 18 to 23 years. Heart to Heart is a Christian charity and therefore we would like our Lifeguides to be sympath
Travel details: There are various locations around Stirling, the one to one work will take place in a public place e.g cafe. And groupwork can take place in a number of locations. Travel expenses will be paid.

Support

Expenses paid: Yes
Expenses details: We pay Lifeguides for transport to and from their meetings public transport or 30p per mile
Training details: Induction includes; Child Protection Procedures, Health and Safety, Equal opportunity, Risk Assessment, Confidentiality, Disciplinary and Grievance procedures, listening skills based on Acorn listening skills. Intro to our toolkits and ongoing support.
