Description

Supporting Your Recovery service offers short term support for over 65’s who have recently had a spell in hospital. This service is offered for 6-8 weeks and referrals can come from medicals staff or family. Support can include transport to follow up appointments, assisted shopping and a good neighbour service which may include popping in for a chat or helping sort mail or going a short walk.
All these things increase confidence and help regain their independence.

Organisation aims and objectives

RVS exists to help people maintain their independence and dignity, in their homes and communities. We do this through providing a number of services such as hospital and community services.

Flexible and dependant on service user needs. Preferably six months time commitment.

Restrictions

Must be a PVG member
Experience required: Friendly personality, good communication skills, understanding the needs of vulnerable older people, ability to observe and identify areas of concern. Non-judgemental attitude towards individual circumstances of service users and ability to ensure confidentiality.
Travel details: In the older person’s home. Volunteer’s can use their own cars, public transport or on foot.
Minimum age: 18

Support

Expenses paid: Yes
Expenses details: Volunteers can claim mileage if they use their own car at 0.45pence per mile. Bus fares will also be reimbursed.
Training details: Induction, safe and legal handbook, online modules and other training opportunities.
