Description

Volunteer drivers provide a personal and friendly service to cancer patients in Lanarkshire to enable them to travel in comfort to and from their hospital and day care centre.

Organisation aims and objectives

To alleviate distress among cancer patients and their families by providing a personal driver service, door to door, thus avoiding lengthy travel with the ambulance service. Our service is free of charge and relies on donations and fundraising to enable us to continue.

Restrictions

Experience required: Good driving skills, patience, caring and understanding.
Travel details: Patients come from within Lanarkshire Health Board Area but can be taken to hospitals anywhere in Lanarkshire, Glasgow and sometimes Edinburgh and Falkirk.
Minimum age: 17

Support

Expenses paid: Yes
Expenses details: We pay drivers 31p per mile as at 19.09.02 - claims are dealt with on a fortnightly basis.
