Description

  • A trainee adviser goes through the Basic Training Course.
  • Interview clients - listen to the client and let the client explain the problem. Help the client to clarify the issue by exploring the problem and asking questions.
  • Giving information - use Advisernet, online services and reference books to find out the correct information.
  • Give advice - explain the information to the client and the choice that the client has, so he/she can decide what to do.
  • Give practical help - for example, filling in forms, doing a benefit calculation, speaking or writing to another agency on behalf of a client.
  • Record cases - make a record of the client's details so that further help can be given if a client returns to the CAB.

The minimum commitment for the post is 18 months and a volunteer is asked to cover 2 advice sessions per week.

Restrictions

No age limits.
Experience required: There are no set requirements for the position and everyone is welcome. However, good communication skills, computer literacy and basic analytic skills can be helpful.
Travel details: The Bureau has a great central location and it is close to the main bus stops (Barclay Street). Train station is a 20 min walk from the Bureau.

Training details: Citizens Advice Scotland provides a comprehensive training programme at the beginning of the role. Ongoing training is available and is updated monthly. Volunteers are supported throughout the training course by the tutor and bureau staff.
