Description

The idea of getting home after a time in hospital can be a daunting prospect for some, especially if there is no-one to help. Lothian Patient Transport is a service which operates out of the Discharge Lounge. Our Volunteer Driver’s provide patients with assistance and peace of mind on the journey home.
The service gives our volunteers a purpose and helps them to feel they are doing something worthwhile and important in their spare time. They have the opportunity to meet new and interesting people not only in our service users but with other like-minded volunteers.
Our service users, many of whom are older and have no one available to help, have said that the service is a life saver. It leaves them with a sense of independence which is often lost later on in life.
