LRCC Volunteer Support Workers will be involved in the provision of practical and emotional support of women and girls over 12yrs who have experienced any form of sexual violence or abuse.

The Volunteer Support Worker role at LRCC can involve one or all of the following: providing sensitive responses to incoming helpline calls, making outgoing support calls to service users and providing face to face support sessions.
Volunteers are part of a team of support and advocacy staff and will be matched with service users who are referred to the service. Volunteer support workers are also responsible for accurately recording the work they carry out via paper or electronic methods and to update their nominated staff member about personal contact and progress with service users.
We are looking for trustworthy volunteers who have a non-judgmental attitude and have a passion for making a positive difference in the lives of women and girls. Personal skills should include: good communication and listening skills.
LRCC has an occupational requirement to recruit only female members of unpaid staff (Schedule 9 [part 1] of the Equality Act 2010) as this role will require the provision of responses to women and girls who have experienced gender-based violence. LRCC are particularly keen to recruit volunteers from under-represented groups including LGBT individuals, BME women and women with disabilities.

Organisation aims and objectives

To promote the welfare and relieve distress of women and girls who have experienced rape and/or any other form of sexual violence or exploitation at any time in their lives, by providing confidential information and support services. Also to raise awareness of the above issues with other agencies and local communities.

Experience required: Volunteeers must committ to 12-13 weeks training (1 evening per week)
Travel details: Most of the volunteering activity takes place at 50 Orchard Street, Hamilton, ML3 6PB, however there are some opportunities to offer outreach support across Lanarkshire. There is free car parking and the building is next to Hamilton Central train station and bus station.
