We are looking for people with the ability and drive to help people aged over 55 learn basic computer skills. This can include aspects such as:
-What's an email?
-I don't have an email address
-What's an attachment?
-I don't have a computer
-Where will I find a computer?
-Even although I found a computer, I wouldn't know how to use it
-How to use/search the internet
Silver City Surfers undertake sessions and have volunteering opportunities at any of the following times and venues:
-every Wednesdays and Fridays, 10.00am-1.00pm at the Citadel, Castlegate.
-every Monday 11.00am-1.00pm Seaton STAR Flat, Seaton Drive.
-every Thursday 11.00am-1.00pm, Cummings Park Community Flat, 122 Cummings Park Drive AB16 7BB
-Every Monday (apart from the 2nd Monday) of the Month we are in Michies’ Union Street Coffee Shop where they are providing free tea/coffee and a biscuit for our participants as well.

Silver City Surfers provide people aged over 55 years the opportunity to learn about basic computing including the use of email and the internet. Volunteers of all ages help us achieve this and make a great difference through helping people over 55 access technology in a friendly and supportive place. Silver City Surfers are also involved in intergenerational work through a schools programme.
Experience required: Must be knowledgeable about I.T. Needs to be patient, thoughtful and good with people.
Needs to be able to explain technology as simplistically as possible.

Training details: Full training and good support is provided to all volunteers. Includes induction, introduction to peer volunteers, information on role, and support available at every session.
