Urgent appeal for Volunteer Drivers

· Must have own car, as we need people who can start straight away

We have a very specific urgent appeal for Volunteer Drivers. We desperately need more volunteer drivers to take patients to their cancer treatment especially in the North Ayrshire area. Due to the Coronavirus social distancing guidelines we need many more drivers. We will reimburse travelling expenses for Volunteers.

Our Volunteer Drivers provide transport to and from cancer patient’s homes to hospitals in Glasgow and locally for cancer treatment. The service is especially useful for those who feel unwell after treatment, those living in rural areas, elderly patients and parents taking children for treatment. Your help is greatly appreciated in this time of need.

Irvine Cancer Care is a voluntary organisation which offers support to those facing the problems of cancer by providing information.

Restrictions

Experience required: Drivers are required. Drivers must be able to communicate with clients and understanding toward them. Reliability and confidentiality essential. Drivers must have a valid driving licence and have accurate current paperwork for their vehicles.

Volunteer Drivers

We offer free transport to cancer patients and where possible their escort to all hospitals and clinics in Glasgow, Edinburgh and throughout Ayrshire. Patients are collected from their homes, accompanied to hospital and taken home again after treatment. This service is especially useful for patients who feel unwell, those living in rural areas, the elderly and parents taking their children for treatment. We also provide transport for the hospice and to appointments for all therapy sessions. We can only ensure to continue the service with the support of our volunteer drivers. If you can commit to a few hours of driving and waiting for patients every week or fortnight or every month, please consider volunteering with us. To safeguard both service users and drivers, we require all volunteers to be PVG checked and we do require volunteers to own a vehicle (MOT & insured) and have a clean valid driving license. We will reimburse mileage expenses for volunteers.

We are looking for volunteer drivers to help us transport people to their GP or hospital appointment. We pay your mileage expenses. Foodbanks in Aberdeen provide emergency food and vital support to local people experiencing crisis in Aberdeen City. Every day people go hungry for reasons ranging from redundancy, poverty to receiving an unexpected bill on a low income. The Food Banks Partnership Aberdeen coordinates food banks in the city while guiding users towards services that can help prevent people becoming reliant on these resources. Partners include, Community Food Initiatives North East (CFINE), Instant Neighbour Trust and Aberdeen Cyrenians. As well as providing emergency food, all partners are committed to promoting employment, signposting to money advice, debt management and household budgeting services, and other sources of support to develop resilience and help people to move on and out of poverty. We are currently recruiting Volunteer Drivers to help in our vital work. This will include assisting with aspects such as deliveries of produce to the Food-Bank Partnership base in Poynernook Road, Aberdeen and to our partner outlets across the City. If you can spare a few hours to help with this or wish to discuss any other volunteer opportunities we currently have please get in touch. Volunteer Drivers

Do you love to drive? Do you want to help older people stay healthy and independent at home? YES! Then this is a great volunteering opportunity for you. Our trusted, reliable and friendly volunteers provide a vital weekly food shopping service which helps older people stay healthy and independent at home. Volunteer Drivers normally dedicate one day a week to Food Train with a minimum time commitment of between four and five hours starting around 9.30am and finishing around 14:30pm. On Mondays our Volunteer Drivers collect shopping lists from our customers. This involves going to customers’ homes accompanied by a Volunteer Helper, checking shopping lists are correct and clearly written and in some cases writing lists for customers. On Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays Volunteer Drivers deliver shopping around the Galashiels, Hawick and Selkirk areas accompanied by a Volunteer Helper. Shopping is collected from Asda in Galashiels already boxed and is delivered in a dedicated Food Train van to each customers’ home where it is unpacked, checked and put away if required. We provide a van for deliveries and all equipment to support this activity. This social and active post will help keep you fit and active whilst providing an invaluable service to the local community.
