Ahead of the Museum’s re-opening we are looking for volunteers to help deliver the ambitious redevelopment of the Museum.
Volunteers will be supported by the Learning Manager and the wider team to gain experience and develop transferable skills. Through this hands-on experience they will obtain their SVQ in Museums and Galleries Practice.
Volunteers will lead and be supported to deliver one of the following projects: Developing a Black History Tour, Developing a Blantyre History Tour, Marketing the collection & Learning activities (option of focusing on the museum collection and/or outdoor learning)This project will involve: · Developing formal and informal online learning activities alongside the Learning Manager. · Helping to create a survey to understand what our online audiences want and monitor this throughout volunteer placement. · Updating the list of dates relating to significant Livingstone events, annual celebration days and relevant anniversaries and think about learning activities that could support these dates and associated marketing activities. · Developing an understanding of different learning styles, which will support the creation of engaging online activities. · Communicating with our communities to share and market the learning activities. · Supporting monitoring and evaluating online engagement of audiences with activities. * please note this project may involve obtaining a Basic Disclosure from Disclosure Scotland (funded through Volunteer Scotland).

To acquire by purchase, fee or otherwise the tenements in Blantyre, in the County of Lanark, containing the house in which David Livingstone, the Missionary and Explorer, was born or had his home as a child, together with an adjacent heritable property comprising the house and grounds known as Blantyre Lodge, and to hold, manage and administer the said properties as a Scottish National Memorial of David Livingstone, his life and achievements.

2 days a month volunteering in person or remotely for the Museum with additional time spent at home to complete SVQ assessments. The completion of assessments (such as reflective essays, discussions, observations, evidence of work produced while volunteering as well as gathering supervisors’ testimonies) will be supported by assessors as well as Museums Galleries Scotland.
Volunteers must be 16yrs or over.

Training details: This project will involve: · Supporting volunteer engagement activities. Helping to coordinate the fortnightly Volunteer Newsletter by writing articles and collecting interesting links for our Volunteers. · Helping with the development of a Volunteer discussion group, focussing on interesting articles and reading. · Collecting and monitoring data relating to Volunteer engagement, with support from the Learning Manager. · Documenting volunteer engagement through photography, written accounts and video.
