Help to combat feelings of loneliness and isolation amongst older people by giving as little
as one hour of your time each week to have a light hearted chat on the phone.

Volunteers will use their own phone and will be comfortable making outbound calls to our members
on a regular basis. The role is flexible and can be done at a time that suits you, it involves:
helping to reduce feelings of loneliness by contacting a small number of older people for an informal chat over the phone; looking out for older peoples' welfare by submitting a brief record of the calls each week, and reporting any matters for concern to the Meal Makers staff. Volunteers should also inform staff of any accidents, incidents or complaints. Meal Makers would also expect volunteers to maintain confidentiality and keep within the boundaries of the role.

Organisation aims and objectives

Our aim is to support older people to live independently at home by helping to reduce food poverty and malnutrition, improve diets and combat social isolation by breaking down the barriers that lead to loneliness. We are also hoping that the project will help to strengthen connections within communities and provide a flexible way for people to volunteer their time and skills locally in a way which suits them.











Experience required: No formal qualifications are required for this role. However, an interest in people and their lives is essential, and you must be friendly, sociable and patient with a caring manner. Good verbal communication skills are required with a sense of humour and the ability to adapt your conversations to different types of people. Volunteers must speak fluent English.

Training details: Volunteers will be allocated a named 'Call Coordinator' who will be available to contact via email or or telephone to provide on-going support, and will also provide remote induction training via video call.
