Description

Offering 1:1 befriending support to adults (16+) and older people in Fife who feel isolated, lonely or disconnected, perhaps as a result of disability, ill health or other circumstances. Making a valuable difference to someone’s life by undertaking a social role such as chatting with someone on the phone, going out for coffee, taking a walk together, finding a hobby or joining a local group. Befrienders help people build their confidence, connect more with their communities and meet new people.

Organisation aims and objectives

Lead Scotland is a voluntary organisation set up to widen access to learning for disabled young people and adults, and carers in Scotland. In Fife, learners can chose what they want to learn and are supported by volunteers, one-to-one or in small groups. Lead Scotland also run a Fife-wide, time limited befriending project for anyone over 16 who is facing social isolation or loneliness. People are supported on a one-to-one basis by local volunteers.

Experience required: Warm and friendly individuals who demonstrate kindness, patience, and respect to others. They must be reliable, have good communication skills and maintain confidentiality. An ability to carry out the role independently and sustain regular contact with the coordinator, providing regular updates.
Travel details: The project provides befriending services throughout Fife although they try to match volunteers with befriendees in their local area.

Support

Expenses paid: Yes
Expenses details: Mileage (45p/mile) and all other out of pocket expenses incurred as part of the befriending service provided are reimbursed on a monthly basis.
Training details: Volunteers will receive induction training before being matched with a person requiring support. Ongoing support and supervision will be given by the Volunteer Manager, who will also ensure that the volunteer can access any training to help them in their role
