Description

Food Train Stirling provide a volunteer led, low cost grocery delivery service to people aged 65 or over who are unable to do their shopping. Customers may come to use the service due to disability, frailty or mobility issues. The service is not means tested or health tested anyone aged 65 or over, living in the Stirling local authority area, who is struggling to access groceries can use the service.

We are recruiting for volunteer drivers, helpers and shoppers to support older people across Stirling and Clackmannanshire with their food shopping.

Volunteer list collectors work in pairs and collect lists from customers using a Food Train van on a Monday. Once lists are collected, volunteer shoppers work together to gather the shopping in a supermarket either in Clackmannanshire or Stirling. Shopping takes place on a Tues, Wed and Thurs depending on which area the customer lives in. Volunteer drivers and helpers collect the food shopping then deliver it to customers. This includes unpacking the shopping and putting it away for customers if appropriate. We provide an induction and training for volunteers, we also buddy up helpers and drivers with an experienced volunteer.

We offer 45p per mileage expenses and cover travel costs. Volunteer shoppers are asked to commit to one morning minimum per week shopping from 8am to 11am. Volunteer helpers and drivers are asked to commit to one day per week which usually starts at 9.30am and may finish around 2pm. We provide water and snacks. After completion of a successful volunteering period we can offer a professional reference. We also provide PVG registration, training and ongoing support in the form of one to one meetings or volunteer meetings.
