Volunteer Cook

Meal Makers is a local neighbourhood food sharing project that connects people who love cooking, and who are happy to share an extra portion of home-cooked food, with an older neighbour who would really appreciate a freshly prepared meal and a friendly chat.

Meal Makers strengthens connections within communities and provides a flexible way for people to volunteer their time and skills locally. Meals can be shared once a week, once a fortnight or every now and then, at times to suits.

Meal Makers uses an online platform to connect Cooks with Diners (www.mealmakers.org.uk). We will organise your PVG membership, basic hygiene training and we have a Facebook group so you can connect with other Cooks as well as staff members.

Organisation aims and objectives

Our project aims to encourage community cohesion, reduce social isolation and malnutrition in older people. We connect volunteers who love cooking (Cooks) with an older neighbour (Diner), who would appreciate some company and a home cooked meal.

Experience required: It is essential volunteers have people skills and can communicate well with others. A reasonable level of cooking is also desirable (please note you do not need any cooking qualifications, just a keen interest in wholesome food).
Travel details: You would just plate up an extra portion of what you’re cooking that day and take it over to your Diner.
Minimum age: 18

Expenses details: No
