In 2018 and 2019, Strathmore Cricket Club ran cricket events exclusively for girls and women. These events had two elements:
· CricHit – which is an exercise and fitness programme specifically developed for females
· Softball Cricket – cricket games played with a softball
The club plans to develop cricket for girls and women in 2020 and needs volunteers to help it do that. The club’s ambition is to establish regular girls and women’s sessions.
CricHit – we would like to recruit and train volunteers who can deliver this programme to groups of girls and women. We would like to see the programme offered as an extra-curricular activity in school and on a regular basis at the club and in the community.
Softball Cricket - This is the fastest growing aspect of the sport of cricket, in Scotland and across the world. We want to make sure that Forfar is part of that development. Girls’ and Women’s softball sessions are intended to be fun and social events. They normally include a mix of activities and games – with plenty of time for participants to socialise. They are flexible and try to take account of what participants want to do. For those who want to play more competitive games, sessions can be adjusted to make this possible. Strathmore Cricket Club is seeking to establish regular sessions at the club
We are also keen to develop sessions at Forfar Academy – open to students and staff and have run some sessions for Brownie and Guide Groups in the past so the possibilities for this new venture are endless!
To take these opportunities forward we also need volunteers in different roles, including to:
· Promote and market programmes
· Organise the cricket activities
· Organise the social elements of events – music, catering etc
This opportunity would be of interest to people interested in sports development, youth work, hospitality, marketing and promotion as well as for girls and women with an interest in fitness and sport.
Provide quality opportunities for involvement in cricket to people living in the Forfar area
Experience required: · Good spoken communication
· Ability to build relationships
· Enthusiasm, reliability & good organisation
There is no formal training required and no prior experience of cricket is required as the emphasis is on working with people in a learning and caring setting.
