Cycling for Newcomers Volunteer

Description

• Map appropriate routes for monthly cycling group
• Assist newcomers with fitting helmets, hi-vis vests, lights and adjusting seat heights on bikes
• Doing pre-ride bike safety checks, and performing any minor maintenance
• Ensuring that all participants are safe on the cycle routes
• Administering first aid if necessary
• Ensuring all bikes and equipment are returned to the office after the bike rides
• Advising participants as to where they can buy bikes, and access bike maintenance services

The Welcoming is an independent charity that supports migrants and refugees to build new lives in Edinburgh. It provides a wide range of classes and activities on a free of charge, drop in basis. The aim is to help newcomers feel at home and achieve their potential in Scotland.

Restrictions

Experience required: • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills • Intermediate level or above in English • Basic bike maintenance skills, and knowledge of first aid • Excellent knowledge of local cycle routes • Exemplary cycling knowledge and road safety knowledge • Commitment to the vision and the values of The Welcomin
Travel details: Ride will usually start at The Welcoming, 20/1 Westfield Avenue.
Minimum age: 18

Expenses details: Please keep hold of your receipts and bring them to the office where you will be asked to complete a form.
Training details: There will be an infomral training session when you join. There will aslo be ongoing support from the Health and Wellebing coordinator.
