Description

StreetReads gives away free books to homeless readers. We collect and
catalogue new, donated books and carefully choose a selection to take out
to spaces and services used by homeless people. We also attend services in a Street Reads capacity and represent the project to other organisations,set up book stands and chat to people who use it,build and maintain relationships with partner agents,adhering to Streetwork’s policies/procedures and Code of Practice at all times.

Organisation aims and objectives

We enable a life off the street for people facing extremely difficult circumstances. We provide expert and compassionate support and advice and we work with people so they can resolve their homelessness as quickly as possible. People can receive services from our Holyrood Hub but we also go to them, either on the street or in their own accommodation.

One four hour shift per month for a minimum of six months.

Restrictions

Experience required: Fully committed to Streetwork’s Mission and Core values. A genuine interest in helping those suffering from the causes and effects of homelessness. Flexible and non judgemental attitude. Empathetic towards our client group, Good communication and people skills.Enjoy meeting and interacting with people.
Travel details: The role of a Street Reads Volunteer involves selecting appropriate books for our service users and taking them,usually by car, to different services.You’d then set up a StreetReads table and encourage people to come up and take a book and have a chat.
Minimum age: 18

Expenses paid: Yes
Expenses details: Out of pocket expenses such as parking fees will be reimbursed.
Training details: Comprehensive Volunteer induction and training program including policy and procedures and role specific training.
