Volunteer Language Tutor

Description

Lingo Flamingo are searching for volunteer language tutors! You must be compassionate and willing to share your language skills (either French, Spanish, Italian or German) with older adults in care homes and day centres in Edinburgh. You will be given teaching training before starting a project, and then you must be free for 10 consecutive weeks. Classes usually take place on a weekday in the morning or early afternoon. Own transport desirable but not essential, and travel expenses reimbursed.

Lingo Flamingo is a not-for-profit social enterprise which aims to make language learning accessible to older adults. We believe it is never to late to learn, and that you can always teach an old dog new tricks! Our work is grounded in research which shows the amazing cognitive benefits of language learning.

Minimum commitment 1 hour per week for 3 months.

Restrictions

Experience required: Essential: - Native or degree level proficiency in either: French, German, Spanish or Italian - Patient and compassionate personality, with interest in older adult care Desirable: - Experience working with older adults - Teaching experience (not essential : training is provided)
Travel details: Locations vary - projects are dependant on the local of participating care homes, day centres and older adult community groups. Own transport is desirable but not essential, and travel expenses can be reimbursed.
Minimum age: 16

Expenses paid: Yes
Expenses details: The volunteer will fill out expenses form and submit it to a Lingo Flamingo staff member to be reimbursed.
Training details: Training can be in person, in our language hub in Glasgow. For those who cannot travel to Glasgow for in person training, there is the possibility for the volunteer to complete online training over Skype. Training takes place over a day and involves filling out a PVG application form.
