Description

We are looking for people to join our team of trained regional Befrienders supporting those who are currently struggling with an eating disorder. Our Befriending Service provides personal support by linking people who are struggling with those who are recovered and trained.

Our Befrienders will provide a weekly telephone call for approximately 6 months in order to support and guide someone towards recovery. The Befriending Service aims to reduce feelings of isolation, offer hope and to encourage people as they work on their recovery. Practical help towards eating again is part of this service, led by
Talk-ED's registered dietitian and nutritional therapist.

It is really helpful to be able to speak to someone who knows what the road to recovery can be like. Our Befriender's have a big 'heart' for others and a wish to help them through.

For more details or to apply please refer to our website https://www.talk-ed.org.uk/become-a-befriender where you will find the guide to Befriending along with an application form.

Over 30 years of experience enables Talk-ED (previously known as Anorexia & Bulimia Care) to offer personal, on-going, emotional support and practical guidance for recovery for people struggling with an eating disorder or disordered eating, in addition to behaviours such as compulsive exercise, self-harming, laxative abuse and suicidal ideation.

Our purpose is to safeguard the lives of people struggling with eating disorders, to prevent an eating disorder from developing and claiming someone's life, to care for the emotional and physical needs of people with eating disorders and their families, friends and colleagues, to encourage recovery by equipping people with practical tools and strategies for living life, to train and resource individuals and organisations working with people affected by eating disorders and to support and engage in research into eating disorders.

Organisation aims and objectives

Talk ED is the new name for Anorexia and Bulimia Care. We are a national charity established in 1989, providing emotional support and practical advice to anyone affected by an eating disorder in the UK. We provide on-going care, emotional support and practical guidance for anyone affected by eating disorders, those struggling personally and parents, families and friends. Talk ED works tirelessly to increase awareness and understanding of eating disorders through talks, training and campaigns for change.
