Volunteer Cook

  • VO81178

We are looking for volunteers who are competent at cooking basic nutritious meals and would be interested in helping out an older person in their local community by sharing an extra portion of dinner with them on a regular basis.

We match our Cooks with a like-minded Diner to ensure that the effort is kept minimal and both parties get the most from their Meal Makers experience.

Organisation aims and objectives

Meal Makers is a local neighbourhood food sharing project that connects people who love cooking, and who are happy to share an extra portion of home-cooked food, with an older neighbour who would really appreciate a freshly prepared meal and a friendly chat. By turning an everyday activity into a volunteering opportunity, Meal Makers strengthens connections within communities and provides a flexible way for people to volunteer their time and skills locally.

For health & safety reasons, we cannot accept volunteers who are under 18
Experience required: It is expected that cooks will have a keen interest in cooking and are competent in cooking basic, nutritious meals. We are also looking for kind, caring and friendly individuals who are patient and great at communicating.
Travel details: We do our best to match Cooks with Diners who live within walking distance from their own home but if you are able to travel to the Diners home by bus or by car then that would be advantageous.
Minimum age: 18

Expenses details: Expenses not paid
Training details: The Meal Makers team will be in constant communication with the cooks and diners to ensure that both parties are enjoying the experience. We have regular check-in calls and are always on hand to provide support when necessary. You will also have access to our 'volunteers-only' closed Facebook group for advice and support from a friendly network of volunteers.
