Description

This role involves visiting blind and partially sighted people in their homes, installing their new radio and teaching them how to use it as well as proving ongoing support, where needed. This role also involves a small amount of admin.

The role is based within your local area. You will be asked to travel around a reasonable distance within your local area. (To be mutually agreed.)
Each visit will take around 2 hours to complete. Depending on your area, we envisage that there will be around 1-2 visits per month.

What does the role involve?
• Contact recipients by phone to agree appointment time
• Visit people in their homes and install our audio equipment
• Give instruction and demonstration of the equipment
• Complete paperwork for each visit
• Make follow up telephone call, and if required arrange further visit and training
• Collect broken sets and arrange repairs
• Deliver replacement sets to existing clients

Organisation aims and objectives

British Wireless for the Blind Fund has been providing specially adapted radios to sight impaired people for more than 80 years. British Wireless for the Blind Fund exists to help improve the daily lives of sight impaired people, who are unable to afford a specially adapted radio, by providing the equipment on free loan.

Restrictions

Applicants need to be able to communicate effectively with the radio recipient
Experience required: Friendly and patient. Good communicator. Full, clean driving licence IT knowledge an advantage but not essential
Travel details: The role is based within your local area. You will be asked to travel around a reasonable distance within your local area. (To be mutually agreed.)
Minimum age: 18

Expenses paid: Yes
Expenses details: Mileage form completed by volunteer. Emailed to Regional Development manager and money paid directly into volunteer's bank account.
Training details: Training and Induction is provided by the Regional Development Manager in the volunteers home or other suitable venue.
