We all need to stay at home to protect ourselves and others. However, those who are well and not at risk can provide essential support for their family, friends and neighbours who cannot leave the house.

Donations/Warehouse Volunteer Glasgow

Description

Simon Community Scotland is a values led organisation. We expect all of our staff and volunteers to reflect this, to care about people and demonstrate compassion, tolerance and tenacity. You can find out more about our mission and vision here, http://simonscotland.org/about-us/.
We need help to receive, sort, store, record, package, distribute and plan every aspect of the donations received by Simon Community Scotland.
Often the people we support have very little or nothing. Our warehouse is a central outlet where we receive, sort and co-ordinate the distribution of the kind donations from our supporters. Having volunteers working alongside staff allows us to maintain this unique service. The warehouse provides stock and replenishment for our Hub. The Hub is a place where people experiencing homelessness can come to access items of clothing and toiletries, the simple things most of us take for granted.
When people first arrive at our supported accommodation services, we want them to feel safe and welcome. The staff and volunteers at the Warehouse help to construct welcome packs for the people we support. These packs contain basic essentials like toiletries, sanitary products, underwear and maybe even a pair of pyjamas. This small gesture has a huge impact on a person’s often difficult transition into a homeless service.
The Warehouse will maintain an active range of supplies that are relevant to the needs, weather and requirements of the people we support. This service will be the main point for public donations throughout the year.

Organisation aims and objectives

Every day we help make positive things happen for people facing extremely difficult circumstances. We provide expert, compassionate and flexible support and link people into the services they need. We deliver a range of services across Glasgow, Edinburgh (Streetwork) and across Central Scotland. We work with people so that they can resolve their homelessness as quickly as possible. We maintain contact with people – in diverse circumstances – so that we can help them address the underlying reasons for their homelessness and get the support they need. By working and learning together we can drive impact and change person to person – to transform everyone’s experience of homelessness in Scotland.
