The Hub is a drop in service providing various forms of advice and support 7 days a week to those facing the causes and effects of homelessness. Every individual's unique journey is different and at Simon Community Scotland we see the potential in people and how we can support them to move forward. We offer various forms of help at the Hub depending on the needs of our service users. Our support can range from supplying a much needed change of clothes for those who have nothing, assisting with the completion of forms, benefit applications and phone calls to just providing a cuppa and a friendly face.
Above all we need people who care about our client group, who are enthusiastic and able to respond flexibly to a role that can sometimes be challenging but bring great rewards and satisfaction. We value our volunteers and want to ensure they are equipped with the skills they need to fulfil their role. A full and comprehensive induction and training is provided for the role of Hub volunteer.

Organisation aims and objectives

Every day we help make positive things happen for people facing extremely difficult circumstances. We provide expert, compassionate and flexible support and link people into the services they need. We deliver a range of services across Glasgow, Edinburgh (Streetwork) and across Central Scotland. We work with people so that they can resolve their homelessness as quickly as possible. We maintain contact with people – in diverse circumstances – so that we can help them address the underlying reasons for their homelessness and get the support they need. By working and learning together we can drive impact and change person to person – to transform everyone’s experience of homelessness in Scotland.

Frequency and commitment details

A minimum commitment of a 4 hour shift per week. This can be flexible, although arranged in advance.

Experience required: Able to approach your volunteering role and tasks with a flexible and non judgemental attitude Empathetic towards our client group Good communication and people skills Enjoy meeting and interacting with people Experience not required as full training and induction will be given to the right candidates who have a genuine interest in helping those suffering from the causes and effects of homelessness
