We all need to stay at home to protect ourselves and others. However, those who are well and not at risk can provide essential support for their family, friends and neighbours who cannot leave the house.

Activity Volunteer Edinburgh

  • VO80762

Simon Community Scotland (SCS) is a values led organisation. We expect all of our staff and volunteers to reflect this, to care about people and demonstrate compassion, tolerance and tenacity. You can find out more about our mission and vision here, http://simonscotland.org/about-us/.
Many of the people we support struggle with social situations for a variety of reasons and are at risk of isolation. At SCS and Streetwork we want to help people to regain social confidence and encourage positive, interesting and fun interaction with others. Our Activity Volunteer role will support our work to provide a varied and full experience to the people using our services, enabling us to encourage and promote learning, skills development and overall well-being.
Hosting a workshop, activity or sharing your skills in our services is a rewarding and fulfilling way for you to get involved in the work of SCS and Streetwork.
The support given by an Activity Volunteer can take many forms - from meditation classes, to a creative writing class, art, crafts, discussion groups and coffee mornings. Workshops could provide real learning outcomes such as literacy, budget planning and practical skills or a service such as hairdressing, massage or therapies.
At SCS we want to be appreciative and respectful of a volunteer’s time commitment. We would ask that the volunteer commits to a regular shift and predetermined rota that suits the needs of the service. This is one of our most flexible roles with shifts running morning, afternoon or evening depending on the volunteer need identified by our service’s users. We’d like Activity Volunteers to commit to a minimum of one shift per month.

Organisation aims and objectives

Every day we help make positive things happen for people facing extremely difficult circumstances. We provide expert, compassionate and flexible support and link people into the services they need. We deliver a range of services across Glasgow, Edinburgh (Streetwork) and across Central Scotland. We work with people so that they can resolve their homelessness as quickly as possible. We maintain contact with people – in diverse circumstances – so that we can help them address the underlying reasons for their homelessness and get the support they need. By working and learning together we can drive impact and change person to person – to transform everyone’s experience of homelessness in Scotland.
